Mother’s Day is just around the corner, and daughters and sons everywhere are racking their brains to find the perfect gift for the woman who gave them the gift of life. Flowers are a classic, but if you really want to treat your mom, treat her to an afternoon at a daystay hotel. Booking a daycation from HotelsByDay takes all hassle out of making Mother’s Day a special event.
Daystay hotels aren’t just for harried business travelers. A daystay hotel is a perfect way for mom to relax, recharge and be pampered. Find the type that meets her mood, be it a boutique B&B or a luxury hotel. Many of our partners offer full day-spa treatments, with saunas, massages and beauty treatments. The only catch is that they’re usually only available to guests.
Making Memories to Last A Lifetime
If the weather’s sunny on May 14, book a daystay hotel with a pool and let mom relax in the sun after a luxurious spa treatment. The Albion Hotel in Miami features a pool and sun deck, a restaurant and is less than a block away from Miami Beach. After a long day of relaxing in the sun, head over to the on-site Repour Bar for cocktails with mom.
In Fort Lauderdale, check out the Delray Sands Resort, located right on the beach. Eat at the onsite restaurant, Latitudes, relax in the tropical outdoor pool and enjoy a dip in hot tubs cooled by the ocean breeze before taking a walk on the beach at sunset with mom.
If your mom is in the market for a new home in sunny Florida, a daystay at the The Waterfront Inn on Lake Sumter is the perfect excuse to go house-hunting. Stay at the Waterfront Inn and explore The Villages, the largest over-55 gated community in the country, home to more than 100,000 residents and three dozen golf courses. After a day checking out the grounds, head over to Lakeridge Winery & Vineyards, a 127-acre estate that offers regular wine tastings to visitors.

If you’re in Louisiana, take mom on a trip to enjoy the 19th century architecture of the St. James Hotel in the heart of New Orleans’ French Quarter. For a Mother’s Day lunch, head to the very appropriately-named Mother’s, a popular cafeteria-style restaurant that’s been serving po’boys, gumbos and other classic Southern cuisine since 1938, before exploring the old heart of New Orleans.
If you’re in sunny Southern California, relax with mom at the Elements Spa in the Hilton Palm Springs. Elements offers a full menu of beauty treatments and massages, as well as a sauna and two whirlpools. Feel like a walk? Take mom for a hike or an off-road ATV tour through the beautiful Coachella Valley Preserve nearby, home of the annual Coachella Music Festival.
Located in the foothills of the San Jacinto Mountains, the view from the Hilton Palm Springs poolside is stunning and makes a picturesque backdrop for the perfect Mother’s Day.
Or book a daystay at the Cadillac Hotel located on the Venice Beach boardwalk in Los Angeles, California. Take a walk down the funky boardwalk, get a gourmand’s lunch on Abbott Kinney Boulevard, then rent a paddleboat for you and mom for a relaxing ride down the Venice Canals.

What’s Mother’s Day Really About?
The original idea for Mother’s Day was started by Julia Ward Howe who wrote the “Mother’s Day Proclamation” as a protest against war. In the early 20th century, Anna Jarvis invented the holiday we know today, trademarking the term “Mother’s Day” and lobbying Congress to recognize the day.
There are some who say that Mother’s Day has become too commercialized. Just 20 years after inventing the holiday, Jarvis publicly denounced it as a marketing tool for greeting card, candy, and flower businesses. But that hasn’t stopped it from becoming a worldwide phenomenon, celebrated in nearly 50 countries.
Mother’s Day is the 3rd most popular holiday in the world, after New Year’s and Christmas. Last year, daughters and sons spent an estimated $30 billion on cards, flowers, jewelry and other gifts for mom in the United States alone.
According to a study by the Pew Research Center, Mother’s Day logs more calls than any other day of the year. Flowers rake in more money on Mother’s Day than Valentine’s Day. But you can do a lot more than just call and send flowers on Mother’s Day: book the perfect daystay hotel with HotelsByDay and enjoy a relaxing daycation with the most important woman in your life, who, in the words of Anna Jarvis, “has done more for you than anyone in the world.”
