French macarons, crepes, cheese, wine, chocolate, and beer.  If you’re feeling indulgent, proud to be French, or simply curious, Bastille Day in New York City is for you. On July 10th, an expansive list of activities await in Manhattan, where French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) resides.  Between 5th Avenue and Lexington Avenue, 60th Street will host a street fair-style celebration of France’s national holiday here in New York.  Ensure the most comfortable experience by booking a day-use hotel for your trip!  A full day of French-themed events and activities pairs perfectly with a private room to freshen up in between adventures.

A Spree of Shows

To kick the day off, at 12:30pm cast members from the musical An American in Paris will be performing on the main stage at the street fair.  The performance will give you a free taste of the talent and excitement involved in the Tony award-winning show.  Meanwhile, back on the street, the talented French Mime for Hire will entertain fair-goers with the art of miming from 12:45pm to 5:00pm.  On 5th avenue from 1:00pm to 5:00pm you’ll find Citroën’s car show, which will feature 25 different automobiles from the major French auto manufacturer.  At 1:15pm and 2:15pm CanCan dances will be performed on the main stage.  In between the two CanCan performances, a traditional French puppet show will take place on stage at 1:30pm.

Daystay hotels that provide the easiest access to the Bastille Day action include SIX Columbus and Seton Hotel.  Located just south of Columbus Circle on 58th Street between 8th and 9th Avenue, the chic and luxurious SIX Columbus places guests in the heart of Manhattan.  Central Park is one block from the hotel and the Bastille Day street fair is a mere 15-minute walk away (or take the slightly longer route through Central Park to kill two birds with one stone).  Opt for the Seton Hotel if you’d prefer to stay near the iconic Grand Central Station.  Here you’ll find access to the 4, 5, and 6 trains that can deliver you from your daystay hotel to the street fair in 10 minutes.

So, if you find yourself heading into the city for Bastille Day, be sure to check out today’s celebratory activities and book a day use room with HotelsByDay!
